Our Founder, George Sebastian

Founder, George Sebastian, and his son, John Sebastian, in 1988. George Sebastian’s keen appreciation for quality and his deep understanding of the importance of commitment to the client live on in John – who continues to instill the qualities into every aspect of SCG today.

With yesterday being Father’s Day, Sebastian Construction Group wanted to recognize George Sebastian, the founder of Sebastian Construction Group.

In 1948, after George returned from serving in World War II, he founded his company, George Sebastian, Builder, to provide post-war housing to support Dallas’ expanding population. A Southern Methodist University graduate and a self-trained architect, George soon found a specialty that suited his passion for architecture and uncompromising commitment to quality: renovating the grand homes of the Highland Park area.

Later, renovation projects became new builds when a wealthy Dallas wildcatter ask George to design and build a house for him. Throughout Dallas, George was known for being focused on the artistry, the design, the details of a home. If the execution didn’t meet his standards, he would rip out the work and do it again (covering the costs from his own pocket.)

From a recent home sale: “Tucked away on a secluded cul-de-sac in Old Preston Hollow, this 1.465-acre tree-covered estate built in 1949 and updated over the years by renowned architect George Sebastian overlooks Bachman Creek.”

In 1982, son John Sebastian, an architecture graduate of Texas Tech University, joined the firm and helped to solidify its reputation for building high quality luxury custom homes.

Over the last sixty years, John Sebastian and his father before him, succeeded in creating a reputation and a way of business that attracts and develops the best talent in the residential construction industry today. Most of all, it’s George’s integrity and uncompromising commitment to quality that still lives on in John Sebastian and is embodied throughout the entire company.

Thank you, George.
